When Detective Jack Mallory is called to the scene of a murder suicide, it seems to be an open and shut case. Until he learns that the female victim and the man who shot her don't appear to have ever had contact before.

Meanwhile, Detective Maureen Weatherby is handed a missing persons case of a couple who she quickly learns have been gone for two weeks already.

While Jack follows leads and Maureen searches for clues, they discover that a mysterious caller is contacting men and demanding they kill or it will be their families paying the price. And the target of more than one of those calls is a woman named Paula Smith.

Jack must find out if it's all random, or if there is a connection between his dead victims, Maureen's missing couple and a single mother of a teenager.

His simple case suddenly becomes a race against time to find a killer before another victim is killed.
